SoCal Trip Pt1: Line up like cattle to scurry for a seat…

And so it began. I’ll begin my story on Thursday August 5th my last day of work, just for some perspective of how much I’ve needed a vacation. I smartly, against my original intentions, took off for the day of my flight (Friday the 6th), even though it wasn’t going to leave till around 7pm that evening. It became very apparent that my Thursday, my last day of work before vacation time, was shaping up to be a bear of a day. On Monday I already knew i had three meetings scheduled for that day. The day began about on time, getting in about some time around 7:30am. On with the day. Well yep it went by. I had the first two meetings of the day, quite uneventful. Then it came, the code review. The last meeting or more or less, as you can tell by the name, more of an inspection of work. Yes it is as murderous as you may be thinking. Going through a whole section of code line-by-line bringing up any errors or comments on approaches that may have been found in people’s preparation for the review. This meeting started at 2pm, or 3pm. I can’t remember anymore. Either way it lasted till about 5:30pm. Oh my god i was going to die. Its my last day of work before vacation and the last thing I’m thinking about is whether it would be better to put method descriptions at the top of each section of code or just in the definitions file. Ok so I got through it, that’s the important part. I made sure the guy who was covering my things while I was away knew everything and I bolted.
Friday comes. I get ready, I watch Hunt for Red October, just for the hell of it while i’m packing. I sleep in. Yes these events are in backwards order. I get on a plane at 7pm Eastern Time in the cattle car ABC style that southwest likes to herd its passengers into. I am, thankfully, lucky enough to be seated in between to very pretty girls on my straight through to San Diego flight. Too bad of course the one, who I was talking too has a boyfriend, and the other was asleep the whole flight. Oh well I guess that’s the best company i could ask for on a five and a half hour non-stop flight. I get into San Diego and I meet my uncle and aunt at the airport at 10pm Pacific Time. So begins the vacation. We hit old town San Diego for some Mexican food and a beer. I had some Negro Modelo. A very good Mexican darker beer, I highly recommend it.
Saturday, Pick up the rental car and kick it up to Los Angeles to hang out with Heidi and Chris for the weekend. But how bout I just leave that for my next installment.
