June 2005

Cash: The Autobiography by Johnny Cash. I just picked up this book in paperback. Honestly, I never really have listened to that much Johnny Cash. I like what I’ve heard, but never really went out of my way to hear it. I just finished reading Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and I kind of wanted to read something a little different. While looking around for some Henry Rollins books in the music section of Borders yesterday, I came across the Cash Autobiography. I read the first paragraph or two of the book and realized yep, this should be pretty interesting.

I also couldn’t help but think of John Cusak’s character, Rob, in ‘High Fidelity’ saying, “I’ve read books like “Unbearable Lightness of Being” and “Love in the Time of Cholera.” And I think I’ve understood them. They’re about girls, right? Just kidding. But I have to say…my all-time favorite book is Johnny Cash’s autobiography “Cash” by Johnny Cash.”

So it was bought. The last kind of autobiographical book I read, was either Stephen King’s “on writing” or “My Life” by Ghandi. I never finished the Ghandi book. Its freakin huge and I had to give it back to somebody who was going out of town for good.

Anyways, another book I’m looking for on that same ilk is Chuck Pahlaniuk, “Stranger than Fiction”.

I finally reworked another theme for this blog. I think its sweet…. its not completely finished yet. I have random image chooser for the header to finish up, and I also have to make the links at the top real, plus add some stuff to the sidebar that I want added (like my spycam, and random post generator and maybe something else that I can’t remember right now.)

take a look around … i’m going to leave it on the new theme for a little while, even though its not quite finished .. just so people can comment on it.

(i know not all the top navigation bar links work, i’m not sure how i want to use them yet .. so be patient!)

Thats whats transcribed on the front of the Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. What genius. I really don’t know why I’ve waited so long to pick up and actually read this classic sci-fi satirically fun book. I finished it yesterday with some time i had in the afternoon. Its a really quick read, and has you laughing at many points, just for the strangeness of some of the situations. It however, does leave you wanting more, which is good, since its a Trilogy thats actually 4 or 5 books.

Just some short fun weekend spontaneity. Laurie and I were out shopping for some sporting goods stuff yesterday on Rockville pike (she needs new softball shoes, i needed some goggles for swimming and am looking for golf hats and window shopping golf shoes). Either way, we went down the road a bit and felt as if we were hungry, but decided to stop in Bed bath and beyond first, since she had a 20% off coupon and some things she needed, a quick trip. Upon getting out of the store we heard some explosions. What the heck is that? Well it was fireworks. Some pretty big fireworks actually, not your cheesy run of the mill, next door neighbor firecrackers. These were some big boomers. So we decided to figure out where it was coming from. We drove around some area for a little bit looking to see if we could get closer. Finally we got back out on Rockville pike and realized it was coming from the country club just up a ways. So with out any regard for the “Private Property, trespassers will be prosecuted” sign we just drove up the drive way and parked ourselves in the parking lot with my top down on the car and watched away at the rest of the fireworks. I even put on some music so we had a little bit of our own soundtrack. It was a funny little trip and completely spontaneous.

Thursday last week (16th of June): Wow what a perfect day to take off work and go down to the beach and hang out near the boardwalk of Ocean City, MD. Thats exactly what we did. Laurie, myself, Boehm and Erin. Not exactly sure if the day could have turned out better. laid out in the sun a good portion of the day, and got into the surf and played around. Was some really good times. Then later in the night we played some mini-golf to which i keep losing to Laurie in, to which i just say is just luck ;). Then we got food at BJ’s on the water-front of the bay in Ocean City.

Weekend: I was jet-skiing for the first time ever at Laurie’s uncles place. I wasn’t able to drive myself cause i needed a permit thing that I forgot to do the online course for the week before, but i was able to ride along. I made one error in my judgement on this endeavor. It was thinking that my girlfriend, a very sweet girl, wouldn’t in fact be trying to throw me off of the jet ski by turning really hard or going fast or doing something silly like that. I was wrong of course, and by the time we got out on the river a good distance from land sure enough she made a turn an easy one at first, and then she really cut into it. Too which of course i hadn’t readied my balance on the thing yet and wasn’t leaning into the turn so there i go flying off into the water. Of course i just passed it off as that I wanted to cool down and get in the water anyways so that seemed like the opportune time. I only fell off once more, but the second time Laurie, in fact went with me. Now I’m not going to say i pulled her off the jet ski or not, but she came off with me, and in fact i felt her slipping off before i lost my grip on the thing. So lets just say thats in history and need not be debated who did the falling and who did the throwing exactly on that turn. I had the chance to go water skiing, but declined for Saturday. I want to do it, but I just wasn’t’ feeling as up to it for whatever reason. I sorta wanted a beer, and realize that was counter-productive to water sports ;). So I’m sure we’ll be down her uncle’s place again, on a good day for water skiing so I can give her family a good laugh at me learning to do it.

I meant to put this up when jim sent me it a while back, but here it is hehe. Makes me chuckle every time i look at it as my computer background at work.

Huh what?

From the Phillies vs. Orioles game on the 21st of May.

wow

Wow I’ve got over a 100 posts on my blog site now, and I’m coming up on the year anniversary of writing this blog and having this domain. Thats pretty badass. I think its coming along pretty well honestly.

http://fromthebleachers.iammikesdomain.com/

Ok. So the look of the site is far from completed. Due partly to my own laziness and lack of time to work on such things. But the first post has gone up so I figure I’ll say something about it here. The writings that you can enjoy from the above linked site will be authored by my roommate, known as Boehm, unless he wants to identify himself otherwise. The idea sort of grew out of an offhand comment he made about how sports writers just aren’t trying anymore. He basically said he could do it himself, and it kills him to read crappy sports writing. So i said why don’t you? Make a blog, hell I’ll host it on my site for you. So here it is. I set it up, its fully functional for him to start posting, and in the coming weeks the look should be updated to something a bit less generic, but fitting to the spirit of the site.

Its opinion, its a blog….. its rantings on sports. Read it, think, comment, maybe even laugh.

Last night. Enter.. Movie plans, dinner plans. Two things that seemingly are simple events to coordinate and find information on. The Movie: Mr and Mrs. Smith. The dinner, some place in “The Avenue” area of White Marsh Mall (which ended up being Red Brick Brewery restaurant). The Players: Myself and Laurie, Boehm and Erin, Jason and Rachel (With a special guest appearance by Jeff, Laurie and Erin’s friend from college).
