So now that we had a great coat for the beige color on the wall we decided to test the waters for the green. We put it up on a test wall. Laurie and I both look at it. I looks eh… it could be livable. It really doesn’t look that bad, but its not great. It pretty much would be the same situation as the brown. The brown was livable it didn’t look terrible, it was just so so, not our taste. So basically we went from do-do brown, to puke green. What the hell were we thinking!!!!!!

Maybe we’re overreacting? We’ve lost some faith in our own color choosing skills at this point. We get the neighbors, Annette and Ryan, over for an opinion. They don’t hate it, they kinda think its an OK color. They wouldn’t think we’re crazy for putting it on the walls. They make some valuable suggestions, and Laurie and I are left to make our decision. That was a little reassuring. It gave us some confidence back.

So we need to decide. Go get another color, or stick the green out. We don’t want OK, we want perfect, we want something we really like, something that fits our tastes. We’re going back to Home Depot… (again)

We get there, and at this point the paint Guru thinks we’re crazy. We look at all of the paint swatches and spend a whole lot of time with the home depot color coordinator program. We have some strong bids for a color. We pick only things that the computer tells us coordinates with the color we had on our walls. Not taking any chances on our own skewed judgement this time. We come up with a dark blue color called Windsor Haze. If you want to check it out go to http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/ and do the color smart program, and look it up. We had it mixed a slight bit lighter than the normal color, but not so much that its the next color down. We only get a quart. We’re not wasting any more money, we’ll test this first, and get a whole gallon later if we like it.

We get home, I roller some on the walls, and we both look at it. There’s a little hesitation here at this point.
Is it too dark
nooo maybe not
(remember we’ve lost all faith in color choosing by this point)
hmm not sure..
I don’t know.
Hmmm.
(a good feeling starts to come over me about it)
Ok i kinda like it, i think it looks nice.
(I hope i can trust this feeling!!!!)

Either way, its worlds better than the green. Lets do it. Laurie starts putting the quart we bought on the walls as I make my final trip back to home depot to get the full gallon. We’re committed, this is the color the accent walls will be!!! by hell or high water, this is our choice. We lay down the first coat of the “Haze”. Its looking pretty good, we’re definitely going to need a second coat though. Its 10pm at this point and we haven’t even eaten dinner yet. We’re going out!. We head out to Rocky Run Tap and Grill in Columbia. A fine brewpub restaurant that has a couple really good custom beers, and a wide selection of food. My god I’m hungry. Then I’m sleepy. I don’t even remember hitting the bed.

10am on Sunday rolls around way too early. We put on the second coats of everything, we just figured it’d look better that way. It turns out the second coats are way quicker. Laurie works on the “Haze” and I work on the beige tan color.

My god i can’t believe we finished all this in the weekend. It was a serious undertaking, but its done. We cleaned up and moved on to having kabob’s on my grill with the neighbors. By nightfall, you wouldn’t even have thought the living room had been in complete disarray for the past 4 days by the looks of it.

whew.. glad thats over.. it looks awesome, the blue accent walls turned out perfect, and I’m really happy with it all

I’m glad its behind us though.

Now only if that darn paint smell would vent out of the house.. you’d think it’d be gone once it all dried.
